May is Bike Month

May is a beautiful time in Fresno County. The wildflowers are blooming, everything is I Bike Fresno green, and the temperatures are mild and invigorating. And May is Bike Month! This year is Fresno's inaugural Million Mile Challenge. We want to show the world what we already know. Fresno County is a great place to ride a bike. We already ride many miles, and recording them at iBikeFresno.org for all to see is a great way to motivate yourself and your friends to ride even more.
It's a no-brainer. Riding a bicycle saves you gas money and tons of aggravation in traffic. A friend of mine put it to me this way: When I'm in a car, I feel frustrated and tense because traffic lights and other cars get in my way and slow me down. I get all upset because I can't drive my car at top speed. But when I'm on my bike, I ride fast! The wind is in my hair, I'm having fun, and the tension melts away.
And don't forget the world-class recreational opportunities we cyclists have right here in our own back yards. If you want to get away from it all only minutes from town, join the Fresno Cycling Club. They lead rides every weekend of the year in the beautiful foothills in eastern Fresno County. Ride all day, then check in when you get home and record those miles!
