Manufacturing Parking (for Bikes)
Posted by Byron Watkins Friday, April 01, 2011
It is very exciting. I Bike Fresno's first ever valet bike parking is tomorrow. The first of many for this coming summer and the first for what is hopefully the future of all events in Fresno County.
We know it can be easy to find an excuse NOT to ride your bike and just take the car instead. We hope this eliminates an excuse.
But before we can do that we need a way to park your bike. So we made some racks!
Last night, Joseph at the Bike Kitchen and I marked, drilled and smashed our way to 8 portable bike racks. Each rack will hold about 8 bikes giving us a 64 bike capacity. If we have enough people ride to fill all 8 racks at once, I will freak out. That will be an amazing first event. Lets just say, I have high hopes. I am trying to temper my excitement.
BIG Hat Days, this weekend...Free valet bike parking, great food, live music, 400 vendors, and I hear it's gonna be beautiful weekend weather.
Looks like you're out of excuses.
Enjoy some pictures of the drilling party.
(Special thanks to The Bike Kitchen for the manufacturing help and thank you to Central California Electronics for donating the materials)
This is Joe pretending to work a drill press.
These are the main poles.
These are some of the fancy tools we used. Yes, that is a hammer.
This is a sign
This is a finished rack in "storage mode"
This is a finished rack with Joe giving it the thumbs up.
